Sometimes it’s time for a change.

As a league we’ve grown and evolved in so many ways and decided we needed a new identity accompanying our new directions and recent re-energized nature. We wanted to mark significant new achievements, such as the announcement that we’re starting a junior league. The Wizard of Oz theme, while nice, seemed played out. We loved the idea of celebrating the city’s nautical nature.

That was why, on Saturday night, we showed the world our league’s new identity as Port City Roller Derby. We love the new logo, donated by ABC Creative in Syracuse, and we’ll also have new looks for our A team, the Breakwall Bombshells, and other iterations we will announce in the future.

But what about you? Do you feel like you need a change? A new hobby? A new style of fitness? New friends? We invite you to check out roller derby, and how you could perhaps get involved, at our Open House/Recruitment Night at 7 p.m. tonight at the Cove (formerly the OzZone), in Oswego’s Midtown Plaza. We’re always looking for new skaters, new referees and new volunteers … we provide the training!

This also serves as an informational meeting for those interested in our new junior derby league for girls ages 10 to 18. That will launch with a six-week training course, with many more details available at the meeting, which parents are invited to attend.

If you’re looking for a cool change, you may want to check us out tonight!
